Jo’s Trust - Cervical Cancer Prevention Week 20-26 January 2020

This week is the annual Jo’s Cervical Cancer Trust cervical cancer prevention week and we encourage you to share information in the attached briefing about prevention of cervical cancer and how people can reduce their risk.

The lifetime risk of developing cervical cancer is 1/139 for women in the UK.  Cervical cancer incidence decreased by nearly half between the late 1980s until the early 2000s, but the last decade has seen an increase in rates in younger women.  The most effective form of prevention is regular screening along with HPV immunisation from age 12.

Fax Machine at the surgery:
Please note in line with GDPR we are no longer using a fax machine at the surgery. If you are a patient please register for online services via reception to order repeat prescriptions. For further information please contact the surgery.

Where to go for the right medical care

Advice for our patients (when the practice is closed)

We are using all of our communications channels to encourage residents to choose the right services for their symptoms, to help manage demand across hospital and primary care.

Help to find the right treatment, is available at the touch of a button on your mobile phone or table.  Download the free Health Help Now app or visit www.healthhelpnow.nhs.uk

If you are feeling unwell, don’t wait for it to get worse. Look up advice online through approved NHS sources, such as NHS Choices, speak to a pharmacist, or contact your GP.

If you are unsure about what services are right for you, you can check your symptoms online at www.nhs.uk or call NHS111 for advice.

Croydon now has three new GP Hubs that provide a wide range of urgent care services for all ages including appointments booked through 111, with a GP available from 8am to 8pm, seven days a week. Walk in appointments are available at GP Hubs but you may need to wait longer.

Find the nearest GP Hub to you:

You can often treat the flu without seeing your GP and should begin to feel better in about a week.  Read more about what to do if you think you or a loved one may have flu www.nhs.uk/conditions/flu/

Norovirus, which causes diarrhoea and vomiting, can be very unpleasant but it usually clears up by itself in a few days.  You can normally look after yourself or your child at home.  Try to avoid going to your GP, as norovirus can spread to others very easily. Read more at www.nhs.uk/conditions/norovirus/
